The resident of this address was Grant Wood's grandfather, DeVolson Weaver. In 1900 this was the only house on this side of the block. Grant and his family probably lived here in the fall after Grant's father died in 1901. (In 1902 Mrs. Wood purchased a house at 318 14th Street.) Undoubtedly, DeVolson Weaver was involved with his son Fred D. Weaver in establishing the first car dealership in Cedar Rapids. Mr. Weaver died in 1905 while living at this address. His wife, Nancy, died in 1912 while residing at 318 14th Street. DeVolson was the middle name of Grant Wood.
