| | #16 1532 B AVENUE
Matilda Peet, with her niece Minnie Pope, lived here for 12 years. Matilda was the
model for Grant Wood's "Victorian Survival". Matilda Peet died in 1905. Minnie
Pope's daughter, Estella, was a school teacher and married Ralph Conybeare, the son
of a Central Park Presbyterian Church minister, Samuel Conybeare. Ralph lived
directly behind this house at 1533 C Avenue in 1913. The residence of Grant, Hattie
and Nan Wood was listed in the 1915 City Directory as 1532 B Avenue. In 1916, only
Hattie and Nan were listed as living at this address. Supposedly, a Grant Wood mural
was done in this house but none was found before it was torn down in 1992.'This is the
only house in this tour that no longer stands but because of its historical nature is
nevertheless mentioned.
